The EASTLINE is a large mixed-use development in Oakland’s Uptown district that will transform this underutilized site and the district around it. The full city block project includes an office tower with ground-floor retail, community space, on-structure public plazas, outdoor roof decks, parking, and a residential tower.
With the site located above three existing BART tunnels that cannot accept increased gravity or lateral loads, the design adapts to these constraints by creating a soaring public room. The plaza flows in and out of the building, engaging street life in all seasons. This new development reactivates the urban core of downtown, enhances public safety, and strengthens the connection between Broadway and Telegraph Avenues.
