Located along the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Carbon La Costa provides the only public access to a 1.5-mile stretch of beach fronting the Pacific Ocean. The pocket beach includes a new cantilevered sea wall, coastal access stairs and ramps, and services such as bathrooms, concessions, shade, and seating areas all fit within a narrow oceanfront site.

The new seawall is designed to dissipate wave energy and conduct sand transport to protect critical utility and transportation infrastructure and build local resilience. Anticipating a future with higher sea levels and a greater demand for public use of the Malibu coast, the design allows for access during both high and low tides and safely connects the public to a once-inaccessible beach.
