The FloMo serves as a Trojan Horse to deliver a message of flood awareness and unity to a community of immigrants and businesses in San Rafael, California. The city’s residents are at risk of displacement or devastation by flooding and sea level rise. The van uses a variety of engaging educational tools to convey the ways in which “Flooding Affects Everyone and Everything.” Bionic equipped the FloMo with educational tools from stickers to a floodable game, a flood level datum, gauge and movable laser, booklets, and surveys in multiple languages.

The FloMo is fun, informative, bilingual, and mobile, allowing it to swiftly reach the greatest number of constituents at a low cost, increase the visibility of the issue, and transcend educational, language, and age barriers. The FloMo was designed to hack the system—to blend in with the ubiquitous automobile in a landscape dominated by vehicular infrastructure and deliver information and awareness to those that need it most.
